In the 90’s I started doing media Press and while on an assignments in 1992 for the Spike Lee’s Malcolm X premiere at the Apollo Theater, in Harlem N Y.
I took this picture of the frozen X (carved out of Ice) in the lobby. The backdrop of some of the entertainers who performed there added to the history of the Apollo Theater for me to capture something so unique. This image became a time capsule for me. I don’t imagine any one else captured it (if at all) the way I did.
Denzel Washington portraying Malcolm X in the off Broadway play, “When the Chickens Come Home to Roost”. During that period in time, the then up and coming director, Spike Lee got together with Denzel to began work on his long-awaited dream project, Malcolm X. This film was shot at various points across the globe of which portrayed what Malcolm X life was about and shown to thousands who admired him while he was alive and thousands more after his assignation.
Malcolm X Daughter, IIyasah Shabazz continues to represent what her father stood for in his absence. You can meet her at http://www.ilyasahshabazz.com/ and read information that (I hope) will restore your faith about the world as we know it today.
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X came from two different backgrounds but lectured about the same ideologies that oppresses people of color. Because of that they both were assassinated. That is how Black people are dealt with especially when you can fundamentally bring large groups of Black people together for a common goal. However, as I right about this, the violence that exist today is nothing short of how thing has been since greed took over the earth, and the enslavement of people to benefited the wealthy.
The photo of the Ice carved “X” shown here has been in my possession since 1992. I have not shown or published it. The Ice relict has melted but the image still remains. It is now being published on Word Press perhaps because no one knows it exist. Not even Spike Lee, Denzel Washington or IIyasah Shabazz.
I was invited to attended a Hindu dance show on December 13, 2014 at PS 268, 92-07 175th St, Jamaica, NY. This was the first time I saw first hand how a community of Hindu people from Guyana and Trinidad Tobago cultivate and nurture their offspring in Queens, NY. How colorful and attractive the performers were, show-casing their culture in music and dance.
This is a eight year old of whom has been involved in learning Bharata Natyam Classical Dance since the age of four.
The following three images portray some of the teenagers performing the Bharata Natyam Classical Dance. It is a graceful dance that uses facial expressions and hand gestures (mudras).
The event was presented by Prem Bhakit Ki Awaaz, which is located at 92-47 172nd St., Jamaica,NY].
Prem Bhakit Ki Awaaz translates to “The Voice Of Love And Devotion”, and also the tittle of a cable TV show promoting Hindu Sanatan Dharma. Through the inspiration of Prem Bhakit Mandir, under the Leadership of Pandit Narayan Latchana (seen in red attire, center left in the photo), this TV show brings the Caribbean Hindu community together, focusing on uplifting the youths.
Sanatan Dharma is said to be the oldest of the major religions, otherwise known as Hinduism, and is a Sanskrit word meaning “Eternal Truth”, “Teachings” and “Tradition.” Just like the word “Namaste” which indicates the spiritual nature within all. Sanatan Dharma is the recognition of the spiritual essence of life and its infinite expressions. Sanatan Dharma/Hinduism (Hindu and Hinduism are said to be used in place of Sanatan Dharma) is the world’s most ancient culture and the socio, spiritual, and religious tradition of almost one billion of the earth’s inhabitants. Sanatana Dharma represents much more than just a religion; rather, it provides its followers with an entire worldview way of life and a coherent and rational view of reality. No one knows how old Sanatan Dharma is, and has no one founder.
Hinduism is not confined to just a geographical location or an ethnic group anyone can become a Hindu. Unlike in other religions, Hinduism recognize the difference between belief and faith. A belief is something that may or may not be true. Faith is the assurance of what someone believes to be true, and the key to faith is experience, which is the central core of Hinduism. As for belief, it is fine to have beliefs as long as one is encouraged to develop a solid faith grounded in experience. All Hindus believe in the revealed scripture (the Vedas) and one Supreme God. All paths lead to a common goal of salvation, the soul’s freedom from a temporal body. Hindus also believe in the sacredness of life, compassion, service, reincarnation, and the laws of karma and dharma.
You can see videos of other Prem Bhakit Ki Awaaz events on Youtube. Contact information can also be obtained from there as well. I welcome comments from my readers on this subject. I for one missed out on learning about Hindu spiritual living beliefs. It is worth while learning about another spiritual entity that exist. As I mentioned earlier, one is encouraged to develop a solid faith grounded in experience. I hope you can agree.
It is in my best interest to let readers know that people should refocus on Civil Rights and not just on the tragic death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. The speed with which the shooting of Michael Brown resonated on social media helped propel and transform a local shooting into a national cause. Watch the video on broken Civil Rights in Ferguson, Mo.
All though discrimination practices all across these United States should also be at the forefront on what goes on behind closed doors. It is not something new. Imagine, if you can (because I can’t) That a Blackman in a toy section of a Department Store (holding a toy gun and talking on a cell phone prior to purchasing the toy) is shot to death because a White person(s) call 911. The person felt threatened by the man holding a toy gun. No questions asked, the Police arrive. Saw a Blackman with a toy gun and shot him to death. This to was distorted. All what was said is, it was an accident. An apology is usually the case when a White person murders a Black person.
People of color too often suffer loses of a love one who has died before their time. Ironically, many underprivileged people of color are not covered in the news with the same exposure as Whites are by the White News Media. It is because of Social Media that local (particular) news media find it necessary to follow the coverage to keep up. Normally it would be business as usual, covering only high profile news reporting that brings in the money. Being murdered unjustifiably by the hands of police is the worst possible means for death. The abuse of power is what people of color are enduring everyday.
It breaks my heart to say that men and women died on behalf of the Civil Rights movement back in the sixties. Preserving Civil Rights should be a priority that everyone should be focusing on in the 21st century. With all the problems going on in these United States, it makes people sick knowing that Civil Rights hasn’t resonated for everyone. Instead it is not to be tolerated and should be abolished think some people. Can anyone see through the flaws that shame this country. If so, Word Press should continue to bring people closer to force a solution.
Looking at how Social Media is working in other parts of the world I found a few interesting videos and articles you should take time to look into from the New York times.
The Nigerian social media outlets jokes about the Ebola epidemic. Watch the times video.
In regards to China, I posted Food and Safety Imports along with a video last month. The New York Times has a video that I consider to be a follow up posted on China’s Social Media. It’s about the food safety scare that has roped in McDonald’s, KFC and Starbucks. Watch video
Find out how Spain’s national police embraces Social Media. As if you didn’t know that they are not the only law enforcement agency that uses it to locate people of interest. When a European arrest warrant was issued recently for Brett and Naghemeh King, who took their cancer-stricken child out of a Hampshire hospital in the south of England without permission, the Spanish police did what has become increasingly common in the search for missing or wanted people: They posted an alert on Twitter.
Within three minutes, the police received a Twitter message saying that the British family’s minivan had stopped for gasoline the night before on a highway in Eskoriatza, in northern Spain, and was headed south. In coordination with British authorities, the police centered their search on Spain’s touristy southern coast. Two hours later, they received a call from a hotel receptionist near Málaga, who had seen the police alert and checked the license plate number on the minivan. The parents were then detained. The department’s Twitter account, @policia, has become the most popular maintained account the law enforcement agency has, just ahead of the F.B.I., with a million followers in a country of 47 million people.
I know that what is going on in the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria is something to keep a eye on. They are displaying extraordinary deftness with media, using every contemporary mode of messaging to recruit fighters, intimidate enemies and promote its ideology. ISIS propaganda, for instance, has strikingly few calls for attacks on the West, even though its most notorious video, among Americans, released 12 days ago, showed the beheading of the American journalist James Foley, threatened another American hostage, and said that American attacks on ISIS “would result in the bloodshed” of Americans. This diverged from nearly all of ISIS’s varied outputs, which promotes its paramount goal to secure and expand the Islamic state. Experts say that could change overnight, but for now it sharply distinguishes ISIS from Al Qaeda, which has long made attacks on the West its top priority.
On that (whistle) note, lack of vision through Social Media in regards to texting has long become an epidemic. This has rendered too many people unable to communicate among each other verbally and are constently putting themselves in danger not paying attention to what is going on aroud them. Video games potentially and psychologically instill violence in audiences that play them over and over again. With the lack of intelligence among some of our young people today, they shouldn’t be even allowed to purchase or rent them. With little resistance, our youth can be recruited into unlawful engagement against our Government and others. Another problem is how some news outlets, distorts the coverage of breaking news or news in general. Would this be because they are fabricating what is happening based on censorship? Consequently, I believe the Primary reason is based on satisfying TV promoters and sponsors who finance them. Impressionable people often use unfounded information of which they heard, and run with it as if it was the gospel truth. The information being passed around creates rivalry among people of which tares away at the fabric we call common sense.
If greed was Civil Rights, many people would be rich.
We don’t have to resort to violence against one another in order to coexist.
I can remember a period in my life, how certain phrases were used to comment about negative events that had consequences because many people were rendered oblivious to the real facts. There is one phrase that I would like to share with (readers) you. It goes like this: ‘Does Anyone Know What Time It Is’?
That particular phrase refers to someone, whose mind has gone dormant, asleep or in other words, the elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top.
Now, I live in the U.S. where wealthy Republican Tea Party Government Officials control a part of our Government called Congress. These men and woman would rather shut down the U.S. Government and stall the progress of the President who is trying to accomplish fair practices for all American citizens in this country. They are bent on blocking meaningful legislation presented to them by the President and the Senate, which is another sector in our Government. The reason is so obvious. What Time Is It! Does Anyone Know? Well, when certain conditions that prevent people from achieving prosperity and are ignored because of prejudices, we should be saying to one another that the time for change is now. That’s what time it is.
Would time stand still when certain aspects of nature renders itself dormant? No! Nature doesn’t work like that. However, consider how the mind can be put to sleep or rendered dormant. Would your body cease to function? Whommm, good question. I also wonder at times, that when we are indulging in our pleasures of life, how many of us are aware of the fact that the distractions around us, hypnotizes the mind. Would that prevent people from realizing what state of mind they are living in? When anyone of us is capable of not becoming a conformist, you would know what time it is. Mind games are always being played on us. The numbing of people’s minds, is another way (in my opinion) that keeps us from realizing the pain others are enduring.
In conclusion, I would wish that all conscious minded, non-conformist people around the globe would find a way to communicate, and establish a set precedent that would get everyone to be on the same page regardless of time zones. This would let our perspective politicians know that without people, they will not make another dime. They should be made to understand that by not doing the right thing by us we could strike until they start working with us and not against us. Let’s let them know we want to stop playing mind games before we destroy our selves.
From my perspective, when people are not in control of their own destiny, they adhere to decisions made that are not in their best interest. Our oppressors are the people who are delusional and will never know What Time It Is.
I’m looking for this blog to become an open discussion.
As put by Cliff Kincaid 8/18/14, “The images and scenes we continue to see in Ferguson resemble war more than traditional police action,” wrote Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) in the Time magazine. The allegations about the “militarization” of police were picked up by dozens of media outlets, on the left and right, and made the libertarian Republican Senator into a media darling. But they were designed to make the police look bad for protecting themselves and their community. – It turns out that the “militarization of police” is a sensational term for police officer safety in the face of drug gangs, crazy gunmen and race riots.
On Saturday August 16th suggested that law enforcement might be working at cross-purposes as tensions again mount. To further insight the protesters, there are conflicting reports regarding why the police officer shot and killed Michael Brown. First it was that a video was release showing Brown robbing a convenience store for cigars. In another news release Brown was said to have robbed a liquor store. One more statement was that Brown was being stopped for jaywalking and not for a robbery. The attempt to justify Police killing and beating Black people by criminalizing them after the fact is coincidental. The Police code of conduct is to protect their own even if it means painting the victim as a violent of a crime to justify any action that was taken. This is a stigma that plays out well when a white Police Officer kills a Black Person. With the constant attacks on Blacks by white Police only infuses the hatred between the two. I know for a few of us, when the topic comes up, racism is always an excuse. We can’t keep running from the truth now that it is played out for everyone to see. It just keep happening over and over. Ferguson is on notice, watch this to see for yourself> link
If in a cases a Black Policemen kills a unarmed White Person (not something I am aware of), the Police Officer would have to relinquish his gun and badge pending investigation. Up to date, all across this country, when a Black man is shot and or killed by a White man with a legel fire arm gets to hold on to his weapon pending an investigation. Trayvon Martin is a prime example. When Blacks are looked upon and treated as they are less than a human beings, deprived of civil rights and fair access to jobs along with providing the lack of proper education for Black children, corralling them to grow up in substandard living conditions.
When you have young Blacks be told about the death of Maya Angelou an African American author, publisher, poet, dancer, actress and singer only get major news coverage of her death from only the Black Media. It adds up to another insult that reminds them that even when you show what you are made of, it doesn’t matter if you are not White.
If a sealed container is kept under pressure what happens. It explodes because it can only hold its composure as long as the pressure doesn’t exceed above a certain point. I call it the breaking point. If someone doesn’t have one, it isn’t human.
I read this statement by Ed Warren who wrote: “Diabolical forces are formidable. These forces are external, and they exist today. The fary tale is true, the Devil exist. God exist, and for us, as people, our very destiny hinges upon which one we elect to follow.”
Personally, I took at what Mr. Warren said and applied it to mean that two different mantalities exist. One is diabolical forces that are determined to distroy life, while the other is hinged on preserve life.
On the streets of Ferguson, Mo., and perhaps in parts of the rest of America, it’s felt as a fundamental injustice, perceptible by the sense of touch that no one with the power to do anything cares about the unarmed black teenager, dead on a Midwestern street, the victim of police gunshots!
Greetings to all my Blogger followers. This is going to be a brief posting about a white Police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, (USA) who shot and killed a 18 year old Black man, and after four days the Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson will not release the name of the officer who shot Michael Brown. By law in the U.S., his actions are illegal and his implementation of Police dressed for combat gear to use deadly force if necessary to stop protesters from protesting against the killing. Read more and watch the video from MSNBC (Politics Nation).
I recieved a email from Thea Beckmen blog: “Why? Because Science”. See it here I liked this blog and left this comment: Hi Thea, Sharing that information on your blog is telling me that you are a worldly person, with compassion. Unfortunately for me, I have known about the genocide in Africa for too long. When people of power (not mentioning names) decide to do away with people they don’t expect any ramifications. Long term effects. What is Science? Lets say that nature finds a way to manifest what man thinks he can control.
Thea’s reply: Genocide refers to war or “extermination” motivated by religion or culture, so I’m not sure how your comment relates to the post: if there’s one thing to be said for viruses, it’s that they aren’t racist or xenophobic! Anyone with a beating heart will do. I do agree with your last point. We mostly maintain an illusion of control over our environment.
What I would like my readers to understand is that there is more going on then you are lead to believe. I would love comments about this blog and please read more and let me know you liked what I wrote also.
To define further, Genocide is the systematic destruction of all or part of a racial, ethnic, religious or national group. Which goes on to describe; Killing of members of the group; Causing of serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; Deliberate inflicting on the group’s conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; Imposing of measures intended to prevent births within the group; or forcible transferring of children of the group to another group.
Genocide entails also the Conspiracy to commit genocide; Direct and public incitement to commit genocide; Attempt to commit genocide; and Complicity in genocide. What constitutes enough of a “part” to qualify as genocide has been subject to much debate by legal scholars.
For those readers of this blog who are or where never exposed by the word Genocide, I offer this to them.
The word “genocide” was coined by Raphael Lemkin (1900-1959), a Jewish Polish lawyer, following the Nazi destruction of the Jews of Europe. He used a combination of Greek and Latin words: geno (race or tribe) and cide (killing). Lemkin was describing “a coordinated plan of different actions aiming at the destruction of essential foundations of the life of national groups, with the aim of annihilating the groups themselves.” Use this link> to read more on Genocide.
If I may, there is something else I would like to convey, if you can remain objective.
I read something five years ago about Discovering the Deception Behind Religious Doctrine and Occult Phenomena and it was written like this: “Entering a difficult period in life, I turned to religion seeking answers. faithfully accepted religious teachings and submersed myself on an eight-war spiritual journey only to discover that the enlightenment offered was a deception. I felt angry and betrayed.” — Tracy Alexander
My next statement is not something to take offense to. However, I will share it with you anyway not being aware of what country you are from.
Religious teachings are seductive. They hold out the promise of wisdom. This is especially enticing to someone who has problems in life.
You think you are going to gain something extremely important. Religious and mystical teachings are filled with spiritual mysteries that need solving. Solving mysteries is something everyone likes to do. Indeed, mystery is a real drawing power of all forms of mysticism, People who get into spirituality on a deep level do so because they’re seeking honesty, enlightenment, and fairness.
They desire a world where honesty prevails, where fairness and compassion are the rules. They are seeking an ideal way to live and deal with others.
But. what they do not realize is that the ultimate wisdom and enlightenment they seek is an illusion.. For, what the dedicated student of religion eventually discovers is that the core of religion is a deception. Those few dedicated students who reach this breakthrough either leave in disgust or are made teachers and spiritual leaders themselves in order to perpetuate the hoax. They rationalize that the people, the masses need the guidance and morality provided by religious doctrine. The so-called enlightenment that students of religion and other mystical systems seek to obtain is the realization that God is not looking out after us.
Unbelievably, the spiritual enlightenment that religious and mystical leaders urge their pupils to obtain, an enlightenment that dedicated students of religion spend years striving to obtain, brings a person back to square one to the realization that no higher authority can be your guide. Only you, the individual, can make decisions and properly guide your own life
What is even more astonishing is when the religious student realizes that the very spiritual leaders he looked up to and followed have also broken through to this same level. The leaders know that at the core of their teachings lie an illusion; that no mystical power is looking out for us. Those students who struggle for years and finally break through to this realization are then made spiritual leaders themselves.
According to religious/spiritual leaders, the common people need to believe in a higher authority in order to live moral productive live. Thus, the Hoax is perpetuated. The religious/spiritual leaders have invested too heavily in religious and mystical doctrines to just walk away.
In reality, one is being told an untruth. No supernatural, all-powerful entity is looking out after us. This all begins with the religious and spiritual leaders weaving a seductive illusion that there is a higher power who will help us.
That is the hook behind all religious and mystical teachings; that God or some higher power is going to help you. This is the essence of what attracts most people to religion. They are looking for someone or something to help them. The religious/mystic path is a process one goes through that can be compared to a scientific experiment.
Now, what I have disclosed is in no way meant to discourage anyone about how they feel about religion. What was said here is to inform you that religion is a business. With the proper understanding, one can find religion inside them self. This will also show how people can be controlled to hate, kill and deny others from achieving success.
